June Sounds

Here is your June Sounds!

Just when I thought I experienced the peak of the cicada season by stepping on shells and carcasses for about three weeks, I realized it was only the beginning. I have now started to bob and weave my way into work as I avoid cicadas flying aimlessly from every direction. They are gross, not cute, and provide no sense of comfort when they land on your skin – not to mention the 24/7 cicada song that plays in the background. As I think about the unease that they create every moment I walk outside, I begin to think about my sin… stick with me here. Sin is gross, I don’t wear it like a new cute pair of sunglasses for all to see, and in no way does it provide true comfort. And yet, it sits with us, humming in the background 24/7 – and the guilt comes in and then the shame, and maybe total despair. Boy wouldn’t we be lucky if we only had to deal with our sin every 17 years… our conscience would finally get a break. Even then, we would dread when it would come around again, we would be overcome with darkness, and yes death itself. Sin plays its deadly tune 24/7, till a man named Jesus came to stop its power over us. Not just for a short period so we may get some rest before we have to face it again, but for GOOD.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”, (Galatians 2:20).

So we are still in this flesh, we still have to face the temptation of sin, but because of his blood, his sacrifice, his LOVE, we have life. The devil, sin, and death no longer claim us – he has defeated them, won us over, and made us his own so that we may have life. My friends, we can do nothing apart from him, so cling fast to him, to his promises, and his word that brings life. So, live for Christ, your neighbor, and know that you have been given new life through the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen!
