Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Last Sunday, a shooter in black body armor brought fear and death into a house of God. The shepherd serving that Sunday was gunned down as he stepped into the pulpit to share God’s Word. Jesus, our Good Shepherd said, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” I’m sure there are many who wonder about God’s abundant life for those in that little church. I’m also sure that the God of life was right there, in the midst of death offering the crown of life to those who died in the Lord.
We know that Satan, the old evil foe, is working hard to bring fear into the hearts of Christians around our country who are wondering if and where the next shooting in a church will be. Fear scatters the flock. Let’s not let fear win. Let’s not let Satan claim the victory. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we will not be scattered, and we will come together to worship our God who has already claimed the victory through His death and resurrection.
Our hearts go out to the families in Sutherland Springs, Texas who are mourning the loss of loved ones, and struggling to recover physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually from what happened last weekend. We pray for strength and peace and healing for that whole community, that God would bring his Shalom into their streets, homes, schools, businesses, and churches.
Discussions are underway evaluating the security of our congregation on Sundays and Wednesdays as well as our children in Open Arms throughout the week. We want to be a place of safety for all God’s children as they learn about Him and serve Him while still welcoming the stranger into our midst. As prepared as we can and will be to face the evil in our world, we faithfully rely on God daily for protection.
I look forward to worshipping with you at OSLC.
In the love of our Good Shepherd,
