To pumpkin spice, or not to pumpkin spice? Or wait is it too early? While some of you are all on for Fall to begin, others have taken all this talk about Fall beginning as a trespass against Summer and oneself. Of course, it’s all a joke and trivial as we poke fun at when is the right time to change our drink of choice and decorations in our home. The truth is, as trivial as this may be, there are many of these “disagreements” in our lives that end up becoming large rifts in our relationships. Things that just end up pushing us over the top… often that’s because we tend to hold on. We hold on to that one time they lied to me, a couple of times they became hurtful with their words; then it all builds to the one small thing that pushes us over. Whether once, a couple, or many times… we hold on. To the lies, the hurtful words, the sin. It buries us deep, so deep we cannot even see the grace that our Lord Jesus has been killed for so that we may taste freedom from sin. But then we run back to the shackles that his blood was poured out to break, and we hold on to the sin, the evil, the hate. My dear friends, let go, you are not bound, you are free. Free to let go, free to forgive. When we hold on to our brother’s and sister’s trespasses we hold on to our own, and disgrace the work our Lord has come to do.
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive,” (Col 3:12-13).
So this week, I hope you rest in HIS forgiveness. Know that it is yours freely, and may this amazing grace transcend to those whose sins bear heavily on your heart. I hope you can bear with one another this fall because truly we are better when we are together. Here is to the coming of a new season, cooler weather, and pumpkin spice flavored everything. Blessings on your month!
