A sermon based on Luke 11:1-13, Rev. J. Orlando Flahn
Are you nurturing a daily connection with God through prayer? If you find this difficult, rest assured—you are not alone. In this Sunday’s Gospel lesson, Jesus’ disciples urgently plead, “Lord, teach us to pray!” (Luke 11:1). Their struggles and inconsistent prayer life reflect a disconnect from God, likely rooted in their legalistic religious background. In contrast, they witnessed the remarkable power and authority that Jesus exercised over demons and unclean spirits, a power resulting from His deep and abiding intimacy with His Father through prayer. Don’t we often experience dryness in our walk with God and yearn for greater intimacy with Him?
We can ask God to teach us to pray, humbly recognizing our spiritual failures and how our sins can disrupt our relationship with Him, yet trusting in His forgiveness to guide us in becoming a “house of prayer for all nations.” (Mark 11:17)
