A sermon based on John 16:12-22, Rev. J. Orlando Flahn
Have you thought of why Jesus felt that it was to His disciples’ advantage that He went away? He says, “For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you…” (John 16:7).
Without Jesus’s presence, the disciples’ hearts were filled with sadness and sorrow; they felt lonely, helpless, and powerless.
But Jesus promised they would get the Help they needed to proclaim the Gospel despite challenges. He says, “Don’t be afraid and powerless, help is on the way!”
Sometimes, we all feel the same, thinking we are powerless and not equipped enough to face today’s challenges. God gave us His Holy Spirit to live in us and to help us live victoriously. Let’s consider the essential role of the Holy Spirit in empowering us to do His work of ministry.
