A sermon based on Mark 12:38-44, Rev. Dr. Jon Diefenthaler, Sr Pastor Emeritus, Our Savior Lutheran Church
The Gospel lesson from Mark 12:38-44 is one in which Jesus draws our attention to a poor widow who quietly dropped her offering into the temple treasury. What she provides is a courageous example for all of us to follow as American citizens, whether the candidate for whom we voted wins or loses. It also is one we can readily apply to our life together during the current pastoral vacancy. And her “mighty” decision with regard to the “mite” she gave to her church can serve to assist each of us in prayerfully making the necessary stewardship commitments that will enable the ministry of our congregation to move forward.
