A sermon based on Matthew 5:1-12, Rev. J. Orlando Flahn
Who do you consider to be a blessed person? Do we sometimes label certain individuals in our society as blessed because of their social status or material possessions, even though God may not view them that way? In this week’s lesson, Jesus describes those He considers blessed as His followers who embody a lifestyle and attitude that reflect His kingdom. Their values, lifestyle, and perspectives differ from those of the broader world.
The term “Blessed” or “Beatitude” in the gospel reading suggests an inner satisfaction and contentment that does not rely on outward circumstances for happiness. God has promised to offer to everyone His Spirit’s power to walk in love and holy living. Join us this “All Saints Day” Sunday to learn more about how we are truly blessed and what it means to live daily as His kingdom people.
