A sermon based on Matthew 9:9-13, Rev. J. Orlando Flahn
Have you thought about God calling you? Why would a holy God choose sinners like you and me? In this Sunday’s Gospel lesson, we see that Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to be one of His disciples. The problem is, tax collectors were often considered traitors and cheats, despised by everyone else. So why did Jesus choose a tax collector like Matthew to follow Him? And why did Jesus call you? It is because Jesus came for those who recognize they are sinners in need of a Savior, not for those who believe they are righteous and need no Savior.
